“We’ve all become a little bit stronger”
Brenda has been a member of our Bereavement Group for four years, since her husband, Roy, passed away.
“I received an invitation to the Group straightaway, but I didn’t feel ready then,” says Brenda. “However, nine months afterwards, a friend of mine who was already a member encouraged me to come along.”
She continues: “I’m so pleased that I agreed to come along, as it’s lovely to be part of the Group and I’ve enjoyed meeting everyone. People are such a tremendous support to each other and it’s lovely to chat. Sometimes people are down but we’re there for each other. We had somebody entertain us by playing tunes recently and, for some, the music brought back special memories – but we looked after each other.”
Brenda has enjoyed some of the trips organised by the Bereavement Group and recently went to Clacton-on-Sea with them all to visit a former member who has moved to the Essex coast.
She says that she’s made some special friendships within the group and sometimes goes out socially with others – recently she accompanied two others to the cinema to see a film they all wanted to see.
“We all pick each other up,” she says.
Brenda has also formed a friendship with a gentleman over their shared loved of gardening.
“If it wasn’t for Bereavement Group, there are some members who possibly might not go out socially, so it’s fantastic that Glenys and Sue organise this group,” says Brenda. “I think we’ve all become a little stronger, more independent and more confidence as a result of Bereavement Group. This sort of thing takes a lot of organising, so a huge thank you Glenys and Sue for all their hard work.”
