The simplest funeral option
For many people, a funeral is a chance to remember the life of a departed loved one, but the traditional funeral service may not feel like the right way to celebrate their life. A separate memorial event may be more appropriate, and in this case, a direct cremation could be the ideal way to manage the funeral itself. There’s no wrong way to mourn, and we can help you arrange the funeral that’s right for your circumstances.

While there are many adverts in the media offering direct cremations, these aren’t necessarily going to provide you with the same level of service you will receive from an experienced local funeral home such as Tester & Jones. With us, you know that your loved one will receive the dignified and compassionate care that you would hope for. We will look after them and be able to answer any questions you may have along the way.
Tester & Jones Simply Direct Cremation
Our Simply Direct Cremation is an option in which your loved one is cremated without a funeral service and is booked, by us, on a date of our choice. If you were to choose a Simply Direct Cremation, your loved one would be collected by us and remain in our care until we take them to the crematorium (at a time agreed with the crematorium). You will be informed of the date that the cremation will take place once it has been booked.

Tester & Jones Local Unattended Cremation
Our Local Unattended Cremation does not include a funeral service or ceremony prior to the cremation. It differs from a Simply Direct Cremation in that the cremation will take place at the local Kent and Sussex Crematorium, and we will personally transport your loved one to the crematorium in our Jaguar hearse on the day of the cremation.

A Local Unattended Cremation also provides additional options. You may wish to pay your respects as your loved one leaves our premises in our Jaguar hearse, perhaps laying flowers on the coffin, or following the hearse to the crematorium entrance. If you wish to spend some time with your loved one, prior to the day of the cremation, our viewing room is available to book for a closed coffin sitting for up to 4 people.*
Total cost £1,990
Once the death has been registered, the unattended cremation will be booked at a local crematorium, using the 9.00 am or 9:15 am slots. Should you wish for the cremation to be booked at a later time, from 9.30 am, there will
be an additional charge of £54.00 to the charge given below.

Both of our direct cremations offer the following

Care for your loved one at our premises until the day of the cremation

Assistance with death registration as required

Completion of all statutory cremation forms

Arranging the cremation date and time

Providing a simple coffin with a nameplate (This can be changed with our Local Unattended Cremation to a coffin of your choice for an additional cost)

Transport to the crematorium on the day of the cremation (hearse will be used for our Local Unattended Cremation)

Arranging the safe return of the ashes or scattering in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium.
