Glenys was pleased to be invited to a service on Friday 14 June at All Saints Church Crowborough to mark 150 years of the Crowborough Almshouse Charity.
The history of the charity can be traced back to 1874, when Mrs de Lannoy funded the building of almshouses in Beacon Road, Crowborough. This was followed, in the early part of the 20th century by Miss Georgina Swift establishing two single storey almshouses in Beeches Road and East Beeches Road, known as Haven Homes.
In the early part of the 21st century, these two charities merged and Swift House in Walshes Road was purchased, which comprised four one-bedroom flats.
The service included a talk by Nick Phillips, Chief Executive of The Almshouses Association and an address by the Rev Steve Rees.
