Church organ appeal

Over the years, we have supported many families with funeral services at St Michael & All Angels Church in Jarvis Brook and, during those services, we have heard the beautiful organ fill the church with music.

We heard recently that the church has launched an appeal to raise £10,000 to pay for the organ to be cleaned and overhauled and we have made a donation towards the fund.

David Bailey, church organist and choir leader at St Michael’s explains: “We are raising £10,000 in order to thoroughly clean and overhaul the fine and historic pipe organ, which was installed in 1905 on completion of the building. This is one of just a handful of Hopkins organs remaining in the country and this project is hugely important to the church family of St Michael’s.”

The church has raised just short of half the money for this project, which it hopes will take place in January 2023.

“It will be really wonderful to have a newly-overhauled organ,” adds Mr Bailey. “It will sound and play a lot better than it does at present and will continue to do what it does so well; providing a dependable accompaniment for services and a catalyst for voluntaries, recitals and concerts.”
