Talking about death still remains something we find hard to do; research from ComRes, commissioned by Dying Matters in 2016, found that only 35% of British adults had made a will and only 30% have discussed their funeral wishes.

May 14 to 20 is Dying Matters Awareness Week – a week which is all about asking the right questions today, so you and your loved ones can prepare for tomorrow and remove any confusion and anxiety that often arises when we avoid talking about dying, death and bereavement.

We avoid discussing the subject of dying, death and bereavement for all kinds of reasons – but this can lead to confusion about a loved one’s true wishes, anxiety about what the future holds and even financial complications.

The aim of Dying Matters Awareness Week is to get people talking about the things that matter. And, as your community funeral director, we’d like to play a role by being here to answer any questions you may have. Every day, we tend to the needs of people who have to face the subject of death – sometimes unexpectedly – and we often hear people wish that they had asked the right questions before a loved one passed away.

We are hosting an event at our office in London Road on Thursday 17 May from 2.00pm to 4.00pm where you can come along and feel free to ask anything - we'll be very happy to help in any way we can.

* What you need to think about * The funeral options available * Recording your funeral wishes * Telling your loved ones your wishes * Paying for your funeral
