Open Day at Wealden Crematorium

This year's Open Day at Wealden Crematorium provided not only an opportunity to find out more about funerals, death and cremations, but also offered a variety of interesting talks, covering topics including the benefits of using an independent funeral director, such as Tester & Jones, and how metal recycling after the cremation process supports charities and protects the environment.

Jo Walsh and Louise Stapple from our team went behind-the-scenes to view Wealden’s Crematorium’s existing cremator, as well as its brand new one – the first hybrid cremator to be installed in the UK. Manufactured by Facultatieve Technologies in Leeds, Luke Kenyon from the company explained that the cremator is currently being commissioned and can be run on both gas and electricity, a decision that will be influenced by that day’s energy prices. It should be fully-operational very soon.

Jo and Louise were able to catch-up with Brian Ellis, President of The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM), as well as listen to a talk from Janeen Key at Obitus, the audio-visual specialists, who talked about how technology and creativity can transform a funeral into a meaningful celebration of life.

There was then time for tea and cakes, provided by the team at Horam Park Golf Club.
