Veterans’ bench unveiled at High Broom Care Home
Glenys Jones and Mike Scarlett from Tester & Jones Funeral Services - along with members of the firm’s Bereavement Group (the BGs) enjoyed a very special afternoon at High Broom Care Home on Tuesday 8 September.
They were joined by representatives from The Crowborough & District Veterans Association – including Barry Hemsley, President and Mervyn Weller, Chairman - to witness the unveiling of a new Veterans’ Bench at the home, with the commemorative plaque donated by Tester & Jones.
The ribbon cutting was undertaken by Mrs P, a resident of High Broom, a veteran herself. Afterwards, everyone joined for a delicious afternoon tea created by the catering team at High Broom, followed by a fun quiz and lots of wonderful conversation.
“Our bench is a place to sit, reflect and remember, honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have served,” said Karen Theobald, Manager at High Broom. “Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the afternoon so memorable.”
Glenys Jones from Tester & Jones added: “It was our pleasure to supply the plaque and it was wonderful to see the beautiful bench we’d heard so much about. Our BGs enjoyed their afternoon out and we are thrilled that the team at High Broom would like to make this a regular event, enjoying tea and cake together. It’s what community is all about.”
