We are proud of our hearse

Did you know that not all funeral directors have their own hearse and some will simply rent one in as needed? This means they can’t always be sure how clean and smart it will look for families. Here at Tester & Jones, we are proud of our beautiful Jaguar hearse and, indeed, our elegant Jaguar seven-seater limousine (plus driver).

Our fabulous colleagues behind the scenes – namely Glenn, Mike and the team - always make sure our hearse looks absolutely sparkling clean and shiny for our families and the same applies to our limousine as well. In fact, if you’re ever in London Road, you’ve probably seen our vehicles outside being cleaned and buffed.

Of course, not every family opts to use our limousine, preferring to make their own way to where the funeral is being held. That said, hiring our limousine and driver does take some pressure off families on the day of the funeral – removing the worry of traffic (as that’s our problem to deal with), as well as concentrating on driving and parking, when their mind is elsewhere.

Over the years, families have also used other ways of transporting their loved one and some chosen a horse drawn hearse. While we don’t have our own horses, we use a local firm which provides beautiful horses, along with the hearse. Because the roads are busy travelling to our local crematoria – which isn’t fair on the horses - we’ll transport the coffin in our own hearse to a location close to the crematorium and transfer it safely at that point.

Since we were established, more than 20 years ago, we’ve had farming families use their own vehicles – such as a steamroller or tractor to transport a coffin, while others have used a VW camper van (we know a company which hires those), lorries and a motorbike with side car.

As ever, we’ll support families to create a funeral service that truly reflects their loved one. But, you can rest assured that – if you opt to use the Tester & Jones hearse and limousine – they will both look absolutely spotless on the day.
