Throughout this difficult time, we have been touched by the different ways our families have adapted to the changing rules and have quietly found new ways of doing things. We shared photos the other month of how friends and family stood, socially distanced, by the side of a road to honour a local gentleman as he travelled to the crematorium.
More recently, another family invited 30 people to their mother's funeral, but were aware that they couldn't hold a gathering afterwards. Recognising that some friends had travelled a little way and others would be going home to an empty house, they gave everyone who attended a 'picnic bag'.
It included a sandwich, some cake, a small bottle of wine and a few snacks, as well as a note of thanks from the family for attending the service. Everyone who received one was extremely touched.
